What Makes the Latte Blue?
Blue is actually one of the least common colors in the foods and drinks we consume. So why is this caramel latte blue? The answer is because we added a secret ingredient: dried butterfly pea flower! Butterfly pea flower, also known as Clitoria ternatea, is a deep blue plant that has been used to brew tea or make natural dye for centuries. Only recently has butterfly pea flower been introduced and growing in popularity with tea drinkers outside of South-East Asia where the plant originates.
Instant Blue Caramel Latte Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3 fl oz milk
- 2 tsp dried butterfly pea flower
- 1 tbsp Waka instant coffee
- 2 fl oz hot water
- 2 tbsp caramel syrup
- Ice
Instructions:

Heat up milk in a small pot.

Add butterfly pea flower into the milk. Steep for 5 minutes.

Filter the milk and remove the dried flowers.

Prepare the coffee: in a mug mix 1 tbsp Waka instant coffee with hot water, stir until fully dissolved.

Pour caramel syrup into a separate glass and add ice cubes on top.

Add the blue milk and the coffee.
