How to Make Mushroom Coffee: A Superfood Latte
Just when you thought there wasn't much room to improve your cup of joe, this coffee trend says otherwise.
What is Mushroom Coffee?
First, we just want to make it clear that we are not putting slices of portobello or shiitake mushrooms into our coffee. Those are culinary mushrooms used for cooking. Instead, mushroom coffee is any coffee drink that's made with medicinal mushroom in the form of an extract or powder.
While mushroom coffees are trending today, medicinal mushrooms have been used all over the world as natural medicine, dating back as early as 200AD in China. The point of adding medicinal mushroom to our coffee is to get additional health benefits that we wouldn’t normally get from just coffee.
Mushroom coffee can be purchased in instant coffee packets, ground coffee blends, or even as coffee pods. It is prepared using the same process as regular coffee to make delicious lattes, mochas, etc.
