There’s no need to watch the clock for when the nearest cafe opens, or even checking your wallet to see if you have spare cash. Make your delicious iced coffee at home, instantly.
1. Mix your instant coffee with cold water
Use cold water to mix your instant coffee! Some coffee experts claim that mixing instant coffee in cold water first so it will help you obtain a more flavorful cup of coffee.
We usually recommend stirring our coffee in hot water first, but we’re always excited to learn new tricks too! Mix a teaspoon of cold water with a teaspoon of instant coffee in your mug. Keep mixing until all of the instant coffee is dissolved then pour the mix over ice, add more cold water, then mix together.
2. Make coffee ice cubes
Prep your iced cubes with coffee so your coffee can stay chilled and not diluted! Make instant coffee like how you usually would and fill your ice trays with it.
This will allow your iced coffee to stay cold without it getting diluted by water. You can enjoy your iced coffee at a leisurely pace without having to stress about drinking your iced coffee fast to beat any wateryness that may occur.
To make it even better, prepare these ice cubes as if you were going to make your usual brew. Add your creams and sugars as you would! Or, before the mixture hits the trays, go ahead and whisk in some cocoa powder for a rich, chocolatey mocha cube.
Once your concoction is divided amongst ice trays, customize the various flavors of your cubes. You can add torn mint leaves, a dash of cinnamon, or a splash of coffee liqueur (if you’re really feeling daring) to some of the cubes for an extra punch of flavor.
3. Spice it up
Spice up your iced coffee from time to time by adding cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, or even chocolate marshmallows. These various spices will give it a nice depth and aroma while chocolate will add an additional sweetness. Cinnamon and nutmeg are crowd favorites when it comes to adding spice to your drinks, just sprinkle a few dustings on the top!
If you love chocolate, add a spoonful of cocoa powder into your next cup of quality instant coffee and you will have a nice treat. You can use either unsweetened or sweetened cocoa powder. Both of these are delicious in any cup of iced coffee.
4. Add sweeteners
Test out different kinds of sweeteners with your iced instant coffee to know your preference. Honey, sugar, simple syrup, etc. This will make your coffee taste smoother and richer. Try out honey coffee with our recipe and see if you prefer this over regular granulated sugar.
You can also add some vanilla and make yourself a nice vanilla latte. It’s a great way to spruce up your iced instant coffee.
5. Perfect the milk to water ratio
If you add milk, be sure to lessen the amount of water you add. For example, most instant coffees ask for 8 to 10 ounces of water. If you were to add milk, add two ounces of milk and 6 ounces of water instead. This way your iced coffee will not taste watered down or too bland.
Try out milk alternatives too, if you prefer a nutty taste -- almond, walnut, or cashew will give your coffee more definition. If you like your coffee on the creamier side, add oat milk to add more texture.
6. Try sparkling iced coffee
Add sparkling water in alternative to regular distilled water. Try our recipe for Sparkling Iced Americano that can be easily made at home. You can associate iced coffee as refreshing, but as time goes by, the ice melts which compromises the taste and texture of the drink.
With carbonated coffee, the bubbles help keep the drink crisp and refreshing all while enhancing the texture and mouthfeel that comes with soda or sparkling water.
